Well, I never was much into Neil Diamond, but I am a big Chris
Isaak fan, and when he released his cover of Solitary Man, I played
it over and over, singing along (badly) until my wife wished I
would become one.

Depending on your approach, you'll be able to pick up one or
several finds. Whichever of the many possible routes you take to
the cache, you'll find it a shady respite. You shouldn't need much
help to locate the painted 4" x 9" cylindrical cookie tin once you
get there. Be sure to wedge it securely when you replace it.

Trails here are very hot, dry, and exposed—please take all

I suspect from the hint and my read on the coords that this had followed gravity a short way from its original spot. It was a tad under the weather, dented, and quite wet inside. Nothing was too nasty, but some rust has set in. I dried it out as best I could. The log was remarkably dry. I put it back where I think it should have been. Thanks!

The best drivers in the world are found among the ranks of the
World Rally Championship. They depend heavily, however, on their
navigators to get them where they are supposed to be. You'll need
some expert navigational assistance yourself to find the finish
line.

The cache is a large painted poly jar containing usual
geoswag.

Caution: Roads are very exposed, hot and dry, and subject to
wildlife hazards: coyotes, snakes, and ticks. Make sure you don't
require breakdown service by carrying plenty of water, using
sunscreen, wearing good driving boots, etc.

At last, my whole point for doing this 9 mile loop, which turned out to be full of fun caches. I don''t know why insipiration was absent on this one, but it was...for a long time. Perhaps my subconscious was chewing away on it, for when I returned to it the other day, I noticed a couple of anomalies on the cache page which clued me in. It is worth the effort - mental and physical - to get here. I hope some others try. It''s been over a year and half for STF. Thanks!

[:O] FTF! [:O] What! [:O] I solved this one when it first came out and watched it sit on the unfound cache list for seemingly forever. So today was the day. Nothing like a hike during the sun''s anvil in a blistering 96 degrees. With the continuous breeze, it wasn''t that bad. I''m usually not a fan of sun drenched fireroads, but the views today were pretty spectacular. There are spots of shade enroute if you need them. And as usual for a C&D cache, great puzzle, and great destination.

The hike stats: I reached the cache in a little under an hour with a lot of picture taking along the way. The return downhill return trip was much faster.

Now, start your rally car up and go and get it!

Cheers,

--- J

When I saw this place I realized I''d been through here on my bike many years ago. The trail looked different walking up it rather than tearing down it.

Ran into some more people on horses and these were kind enough to tell me the name of the trail & take my collection of beer cans and candy wrappers down with them.

When I found the cache I left what may very well be my final Sky Captain & The World of Tomorrow trading card. Man, I had a huge pile of those things once upon a time. But this morning when I opened the swag drawer there was only one left. So I left it here along with a Keep On Trucking air freshener. Those tempting goodies will surely bring a stampede of cachers in the near future.

Thanks for the nice little guided tour.

Ran into some people on horseback as I was approaching this one. They told me the trail dead ended just ahead. Rather than turn around I got all zen on them stating, "One man''s dead end is another man''s dead beginning." They just looked confused so I chased them away with my trekking poles. Thanks for the cache.

From near this cache you can see what I believe to be the Oliver Saddle helipad up above. I wanted to go there and gaze down upon "Compound W" (GC13RH4), but that switchback would''ve taken me too long. Instead I took the equestrian trail straight to "Can I Get A Witness?" (GC1EMP1) and headed back to my car, which was parked on Little Tujunga right by the paintball place''s driveway.

Several of the paths and roads through the wash have been either damaged or completely destroyed. Until the roads are repaired, or the water levels go down so a new route can be determined, it is advisable to only attempt to access caches #7 thru #12 from the entrance on the north side of the wash, near cache # 8. Parking on the North side is available on Mary Bell Avenue. *****

Directions to Tujunga Wash Caching Trail: In Lake View Terrace, exit the 210 Freeway at Wheatland Avenue. Proceed North on Wheatland, one block to Foothill Blvd. Turn Left on Foothill Blvd. Proceed West one block to Christy Avenue. Turn Left on Christy Avenue and proceed to the end of the street near the stables. The approximate coordinates of the parking area are: N 34 16.292, W 118 21.560.

The Tujunga Wash Caching Trail is a 3.7 mile loop with 16 caches. The terrain is mostly flat, with a few small hills. The trails vary from nice pathways, to rocky paths with narrow moderate to heavy brush. At some times of the year, the streams feeding the wash do have water. At the time of placement there were four creek crossings on the trail. The 1st crossing is just past #6. The 2nd and 3rd crossing are before and after #8, and the 4th crossing is just past #12. The trails for caches #1 thru #6 are fairly obvious, although rocky at times. The trails between #6 and #8 are much less defined. The trail from #8 thru #16 is well defined.

The area is moderately busy on the weekends, with mostly equestrian traffic. Please be mindful of the horses and do not scare them. We suggest hiking boots and long pants as the paths do tend to get rocky, and there are lots of cactus and other pointy plants along the path. When we planted the caches, there were 4 creek crossings, the first 3 we were able to cross on rocks or logs without getting wet. On the 4th we might have been able to use the rocks, but we were tired and just decided to walk thru the water. The cold water was quite refreshing. After storms in the mountains, the creeks may have more water, so be careful. As always, please be prepared and take plenty of drinking water with you. There is very little tree cover, and the area can get quite hot in the summer.

Have fun and be safe.

Out today with the Cachanistas Group
Making our way around the Tujunga Loop
We lost one friend about halfway through
Went back for his glasses and bid us adieu

This pretty day was heating up real warm
As I checked the Slurpee on my order form
But we didn''t find one most important hide
Two of our crew nearly broke down and cried

We did see a lake with two ducks having fun
We were happy too when the day had begun
But after all our finds and crossing five streams
It was time to find this wash''s hidden extremes

And I suppose I could take some of the blame
For heading down a trail that looked pretty lame
But when I started, there were plenty of tracks
Then, the prints disappeared and I said just relax

But I hit a dead end and I began to freak some
When we ran into bamboo and smelly pond scum
We shoulda brought a machete and also some flares
It''s a good thing someone had us in their prayers!

Had quite an adventure hiking thru the last bit of jungle to find the trail. Signed the log Sabado Cachanistas (or Cashistas) TFTC!

Just don''t go the way I went.[^] Then again, why not[?] I managed to walk right to the host and in no time spotted and then grabbed the cache @ 5:48pm. Knowing the twisted and demented mind of the cache owner made finding this cache that much easier.[^] One thing, once you grab the cache, don''t drop any thing like I did.[v] It was still fun never-the-less. Sunland Park was the center of the original 40 acres of the village called Monte Vista. "Judge" Page purchased the land and set it aside as a public retreat in 1884.

This park has seen many changes over the years, but it has always remained a place suitable for gatherings like Carnivals and Festivals, to small family parties.

A quote from a Chamber of Commerce Magazine from 1947...

"At the turn of the century, when Sunland was known as the town of Monte Vista, the frontier stage coaches stopped just around the corner from the heart of Sunland's renowned mountain valley park. Imagine, if you can, the surprising paradox of Coney Island Ferris Wheels ... red caramel apples ... games of skill ... amid the picturesque setting of 700 year old oaks and a matchless panorama of mountain scenery."

Not very many of these oaks remain. In the 1940's, oak leaf gallflies invaded the area and destroyed the oaks. Pines were planted where the dead oaks were removed.

You can find the offspring of those old oaks in another popular Los Angeles destination (filled with Geocaches I might add), in 1929, 25,000 seedling oaks were taken from the Sunland Park grove for propagation at the Los Angeles park department at Griffith Park. Those oaks still survive in the canyons.

Went back for his glasses and bid us adieu

This pretty day was heating up real warm

Two of our crew nearly broke down and cried

We did see a lake with two ducks having fun
We were happy too when the day had begun

And I suppose I could take some of the blame
For heading down a trail that looked pretty lame
But when I started, there were plenty of tracks

But I hit a dead end and I began to freak some
When we ran into bamboo and smelly pond scum
We shoulda brought a machete and also some flares

      coordinates.

Go to the posted coordinates. You will be standing in an area
that was burned in the wildfires of summer 2003. As you can see,
Mother Nature is still healing from those infernos. Please do not
leave the trail in the burn area; give Mother Nature some time to
heal.

Standing at the above coordinates, look south across Oak Spring
creek, and you will see the remains of an old 4-wheel drive trail
that switchbacks its way up the side of the canyon. The cache is
located at the switchback 881 feet (0.145 nautical miles) directly
south of you.

The old road is overgrown and somewhat difficult to follow. It
is not part of the Oak Springs trail that you are standing on. The
challenge will be to figure out where to cross Oak Spring creek to
get on this old road. The old road is non-existent on the north
side of the creek, and there is not much road left on the south
side as well. However the spot where the road once forded the creek
is obvious, if you can find it. Poison oak may be unavoidable
around the area where you cross the creek, so wear long pants and
bring Tecnu® to wash up if you are sensitive. Don't bushwhack up
the side of the canyon as it is covered in poison oak. The correct
path may feel as if you are bushwhacking; but, believe me, it is
much easier than trying to go straight up through the brush.

The old road continues up to Yerba Buena Fire Road. Even on my
old maps this part of the road is shown as a fire break. The fire
fighters who put out the blaze in 2003, bulldozed the upper two
thirds of the old road turning it into a 50' wide fire break.

Parking is at N 34° 19.151 , W 118° 20.065. You will need a

I''m the first to admit I''m not really good at finding micros, but I figured what the heck & marched up here this morning to give it a shot. I''ve been up here before and know Oak Springs Trail for the steep, sun-baked incline it is, but it was a cool, clear morning. Probably as good as it gets for this trail.

Made it up to GZ, no problem, saw where I was supposed to go from there, got to the old truck & searched for about a half an hour. Pawed around the obvious places and used my camera to look places I didn''t want to go pawing around, dug through a pile of sediment at the end of the truck, really gave it a once over, but couldn''t find it. Thought about going back to my car for the jack to get under this thing, but thought better of it a nanosec later.

Some one wanna tell me where to look? I don''t think I''m going back.

This cache has been on my "To DO" list for more than two years and as I had already begun this summer my campaign of knocking off several of Robinson''s 100 Angeles hikes, today''s watchlist posting combined with the cooler weather was the final motivation I needed to spur me onward.
What pretty, pretty red leaves are strewn all along the lower stretches of the trail! Don''t pick up any souvenirs. A moderate breeze kept me cool as I ascended the ridge, and down to the spring. Final destination was a fairly simple exercise, and I believe I managed to avoid what little poison oak I encountered, which thankfully wasn''t as prevalent as I had feared.

The old 4x4 road is even more overgrown since my last visit. I had to use my hiking stick to hack out a path through the poison oak in one spot. Be careful.

This one still doesn''t make sense. The coordinates put you right at the side of someone''s house. The added description doesn''t compute either. Left on Esko? Left is relative...I take it it should mean north on Esko? Right on Jimenez...okay, I think I understand, but I didn''t see anything nearby that seemed to relate to the hint. While he crossed the water his GPS fell out of his pocket and into the water. His GPS was completely submerged and not visible. Fortunately he was able to feel around in the rushing water and he was able to find. I was amazed that it still worked. Those Garmins really are water proof.

While doing some cache maintenance, we decided to drop a few more caches on the north side of the river, since cross the river is currently not feasible. We have added Bonus Caches A through F. Bonus Cache A is just past cache #6. Bonus Cache B is just off the trail, or what is left of it, between #6 and #13. Bonus Caches C through F are in a loop at the western end of the trail, between Caches # 15 and #16.

*****IMPORTANT NOTE*****: After the recent record storms, it is currently not safe to cross the creek between #6 and #7, and it is not possible to cross between #12 and #13 due to an 8 -10 foot drop off.

If you’re not quite up for the entire 9-mile, 10-cache loop
through the hills above Sunland, here’s a shorter option for you to
consider. You can pick up two or three finds within an hour.

Although it is certainly possible to reach this from
below, I believe you’ll concur that it is more enjoyable to hike
any of the fire roads up, approach the cache from above, then
follow the use trail down. Go early to get the best views and
wildlife encounters—I saw hummingbirds, quail, rabbits, a couple of
coyotes, fresh deer tracks, and of course, lizards galore. It is
always possible to encounter ticks and snakes off trail, so please
use caution. And even if you're going on the short tour, take some
water, it does get hot.
</ldesc>
<loadorder></loadorder><logid>625508</logid><lon>-118.323783</lon>
<placed></placed><sdesc>You'll need a massive tee shot to reach any of Angeles

Having recently returned from Utah I named this surprise of a
shady picnic area in commemoration of my caching exploits
there.

There is a plethora of possible routes to and from the cache,
but I made a nice nine-mile loop beginning at Dominica Avenue off
Foothill Drive, ascending the Oliver Truck Trail, then across 2N94
and down Ebey Canyon to the Conover Fire Road back to Foothill. You
certainly can find other alternatives.

The cache, a small painted poly jar with typical geoswag, is
hidden out of sight, and tree cover might inhibit your GPS

I gave up, laid down on the bench, and under the table I found an empty picture frame screwed to the bottom of the picnic table. Hmm, I figured I found it, but it had been muggled. When I placed this cache on a long hike, I thought it was sufficiently remote that the weekend yobbo crowd wouldn''t make it up here, and made the cache an easy find. However, I failed to realise that much easier access is possible. I returned to rectify my misunderstanding and replaced and relocated the hide to a location that hopefully will be safer from the great unwashed.

A small painted poly jar should await your easy discovery, if it

park at the Ranger Station on L.T. and cross the wash for a more
interesting walk, or possibly at the paintball arena, if you want

Stopped in at the Ranger Station all ready to buy a pass. (I left the annual pass that I bought at Utah''s Cedar Breaks Nat''l Monument at my office.) The Ranger told me not to bother because the ticketing Ranger was on vacation. At any rate, I parked at a spot that doesn''t require a pass: on the east side of Litle Tujunga just south of both the paintball lot and the "Entering Angeles Nat''l Forest" sign.

I walked straight through the deserted paintball place and found the trailhead sign. I stayed up on the road and got as close as 122 feet from the cache, but I was up here and the cache was down there. Shucks. I continued on and turned right onto 3N36, which leads to "Is There A Doctor...?" (GC1EMNF).

On the way back from that cache I took the equestrian trail that leads nearly straight to this cache, and made the find.

parking area. If the parking area is not open, you can park along the
road opposite the trailhead at 34° 19.13' N 118° 20.015' W. You
will need a National Forest
Adventure Pass to park here (except for
the last Saturday of each month in 2003).

The cache originally contained:

Log book & pencil

colored chalk

spring toy

emergency poncho

toy car

This hike will take you through a recently burned area. This is where the
first stage of this cache was when it was a multi-cache. The fire fighters
built a new fire break to contain the fire to this relatively small area. The
trail is partially obscured by the fire break. You will need to follow the
firebreak to Oak Spring trail camp where you can cross the creek an continue
on the trail.

The total trip is seven miles on trails that are sometimes steep. Except for
the welcome shade near the two springs the hike is mostly through chapparal.
Take plenty of water and wear good hiking shoes. The cache can also be done on
mountain bike or horseback. Due the the steepness of the trail I recommend
only advanced bikers. The new parking lot has spaces for horse trailers.

You can answer the question "Where did I leave the keys to the truck?" along the way. And Groundspeak Premium members can also bag

If you're inclined to neither the short, nor the full-distance
loop hike, here's a veritable freebie for you. Just a short walk
from the closest parking, you ought to be able to grab this and be
back at your car in 15 or 20 minutes, and you can head straight to
Jiffy-Lube. Although the gate may be locked below, I believe the
fire road to constitute a public easement—and it's certainly not
wet, in any case. (As Ashley Olsen said, at the the pinnacle of her
cinematic achievement, "Are you asking me equestrian?"—those of you
astride a horse can access this the long way 'round.)

What a great time! There are yellow blooms all over the hills. Three of our group of four clawed our way to the cache. We described the contents to the one who remained on terra firma, and then ignored his repeated pleas to trade for a certain item. I appreciated the view of Tujunga Wash, in which our family has geocached several times.

We continued on a short way to Oliver Saddle, where we climbed on that giant spool thingy. Anyone know what it is?

The Saddle offers a nice view of Little Tujunga Canyon Road, on which we''ve travelled in the recent past to get to Mendenhall Ridge, Limerock Canyon, and Oak Spring.

I did the caches along the road today. An enjoyable afternoon walk.

This is another of colin&daddy''s patented "If this doesn''t kill you, it will make you stronger" caches. [:D][:D][:D][:D]

I wouldn''t recommend the last pitch without a good set of hiking sticks and a good sense of balance.

Unlike the wandering bovine, I have been up here before, so I knew right where to go. It was hot, but there was a steady breeze cooling things off ever so slightly as I chugged up the hill to the cache in just over 20 minutes. SL. Left a few things to stock the cache a bit and took the TB. So sorry about your cousin; my mother beat breast cancer but died of bone cancer a couple of years later. My best wishes.

From the trailhead at Little Tujunga the Doc Larsen equestrian
trail twists and winds and undulates its way steadily upwards for
about two and a half miles to its intersection with 2N94. If you're
continuing from

Can I Get a Witness?, make sure to take a left at the marked
junction; or, if you miss it, you can head north when you hit the
road and pick it up again. Most of the trail is through sun baked
chaparral with only a couple of intermittent shady spots for
respite. This one will ensure you're heading the right way. If
you're familiar with my work, the location should be apparent,
despite possibly jammy coordinates. If you're not, then the spoiler
photo below might be helpful. I recommend taking the more
circuitous route to avoid the occasional poison-oak.
There is poison oak popping out in various places even on the "easier" approach. The hill ia a bit treacherous to say the least, and it''s probably good that not too many people come for this. The cache was nearly buried under tree detritus but everything was nice and dry. After finding so many of them today, I have to ask, what does your family love to eat so much? [;)][:P]
